Frequently Asked Questions

Throughout the day we hear many questions from our customers, especially about do-it-yourself projects. Here are the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions:

There are a lot of variables to consider when figuring out the price of invitations. No two invitations will have the exact same price. Because we have such a huge selection of papers, envelopes and other elements to choose from your choices and the quantity needed will dictate the price.

Invitations can be as low as $0.50 per set. Pocket invitations, which are very popular, average $1.85 per invitation set. A set includes the pocket, outer envelope, layer for invitation wording, layer below invite layer for additional color, RSVP postcard, map and accommodation cards, adhesive, tools and possible embellishment (ribbon, crystal, paper punch). Very few invitation sets exceed $2.00 per set.

In most cases you can save hundreds of dollars. We invite you to look online and check out our quality local competitors first. After you have a feel for prices come to see us. Many of our customers tell us that we saved them anywhere from 50-75%. Just the other day a couple told me that the invitation they chose online was $12.00. We showed them how to make it themselves for just under $2.00. On 200 invitations that was a savings of $2000.00. This was an unusual invitation but savings of several hundred dollars is the norm.

There are a number of reasons. 1) We are larger than most of our competitors allowing us to offer you the benefit of our increased buying power. 2) Our design staff works on a first come first served basis which allows us to help more people in a shorter period of time. 3) Because we do so much volume we are not continually reinventing the wheel. Some tasks, once done, can apply to many invitations. 4) Our specialty is DO-IT-YOURSELF. The largest cost of any invitation is the labor to produce it. By Paper Depot doing only the steps that require professional training, and teaching you to do the rest, you are able to save the major part of the cost.

Many of our customers start by taking our DIY Wedding Invitation Class. This is a 90-minute class that will show you some of the more popular styles of invitations, help you understand what papers will work in your printer, show you some tools that will make the job go more smoothly and answer questions you might have. You will also make a sample invitation that you can take home.

Other customers stop by and ask how they should start. We will show you our selection of hundreds of invitation samples. This is a great first step. We'll tell you all about the samples and how they can help you. Once you find a design or designs you like you'll meet with one of our talented designers who will get you started choosing papers. From there it gets much easier. Don't worry. We'll help you through each step.

Oh yes, without a doubt. Paper Depot designers are very skilled in making the DIY process possible. We will make you a free sample using the components you choose, while you watch. You can take this sample home to show off and then use later as a reference when making your own. We will make you a layout sheet with each finished paper size you will need so you will know how to lay it out for printing and cutting. This layout sheet will include how many pieces of each paper you will need, how much adhesive, ribbon or other embellishments to complete your DIY invitation. Included will be the price for all the materials you need.

Sorry, we do not make invitations or other craft projects for our customers. Having a sample to refer to and the layout sheet provided with your free sample will help you begin your project. We do however help with cutting papers to the appropriate sizes. Ask in store for details.

There is not a definite answer to that question. A lot depends on how simple or detailed your design is, how many helpers you have, and the quantity needed to name a few factors. Having Paper Depot cut your papers will save a lot of time. It usually takes us 2 – 3 days to cut paper. Ask in store for details on cutting.

Most of our customers use either Microsoft Publisher or Word. One of our designers will create a layout sheet showing you how each component of your invitation lays out on the sheet from which it is cut. On the same sheet there are some basic instructions on layout that makes cutting an easy task. Our designers are happy to give a quick lesson on how to layout your invitation, RSVP and insert cards using either Microsoft Publisher or Word.

Paper Depot does not offer printing services. Many of our customers print at home using their own inkjet or laser printers. Our designers will show you how to set up your computer. We also have a list of local printers including shops with offset presses, letter presses, and copy shops, which we have recommended to our customers for many years. We will offer suggestions on which papers will work the best with your choice of printing or copying.

Most papers, even our exotics, come in 8 1/2 x 11. We also stock some 8 1/2 x 14, 11 x 17, and many sizes precut to fit standard envelope sizes. Our printed scrapbook papers come in 12 x 12. We have many choices of papers in large paper mill size sheets up to 28 x 40 that can be cut to the size that you need. Ask to see our sample deck.
